Bible Cake Decoration Tutorial using round cakes

Hi to all, Happy New Year! Hope you all enjoyed your holidays and are settling well into 2016.

This is my first post this year, so of course I had to keep a promise I made of sharing this tutorial on how to decorate a Bible cake using round cakes as your base. Here we go!

Bible Cake

I was in Nyeri for some time and I got an order for a 2 kg bible vanilla cake and I had to come up with a way to make the cake without the bible pan. I remembered a picture tutorial I had seen shared on The Bakers Club Facebook group and I decided to give it a try. I was delighted to discover that it worked out very well and I decided to share my step by step method in order to help out any other bakers out there who might find themselves in a bind.

Directions:

  • First you need to bake 3 Vanilla cakes in 8″ round pans, then cool them completely.
  • Level each of the cakes and ensure they are identical in height, as close as you can get them.

Level the round cakes to identical heights
  • Prepare your buttercream frosting ready to get started; I’ll provide the recipe and exact measurements I used below.
  • Layer the three vanilla cakes on top of each other, applying a coat of buttercream before stacking each cake on top of the other. Make sure they sit on each other as equally as possible.

Stack the cakes on top of each other and fill with buttercream
  • Using a large bread knife, slice the cake in equal halves. Place the inside halves, next to each other, on your cake board ready to frost.
  • Mold your cake by shaving off the top as you see fit until they form a uniform bible-shape.
  • Spread a crumb coat on the cakes, wait for the buttercream to set for about half an hour to an hour (or if you are like me and was short of time ^_^ place in the fridge for about 15 minutes). Spread a layer of frosting on the cake and cover the cake completely.

  • I added another layer buttercream frosting to cover some sections of the cake that needed work.

At this point you can draw lines on the side using a toothpick, to make the cake look like an actual book.

I personally added another thin layer of whipped cream since my client wanted a very white base; however, it is not necessary.

  • Your bible cake is now ready to get border decorations and writing according to your customer’s preference and writing as well.

Butter-Cream Frosting

Ingredients:

  • Icing Sugar (500gms) = 3 pkts
  • Margarine (or Butter) = 1 1/2 cups
  • Vanilla Essence             = 2 tspns
  • Milk                                   = 1/3 cup

Cream the sugar, margarine and vanilla while gradually adding the milk until the buttercream is of a creamy texture and whitish color.

    1. Hi, probably too much milk; next time when mixing the icing sugar and margarine; add the milk gradually in order to get the correct consistency. If you add too much liquid at once, it becomes runny.
