3 Quick tips to get you Wedding Cake orders in 2020

Hope you’re all doing well. Today, I want to cover a topic that a lot of bakers, especially amateur bakers – or if you’re really new in the industry, tend to ask or comment in a lot of our platforms. A lot of Bakers ask, “How do I get my first wedding cake?” Or, “How do I attract wedding cake orders?”

I’ll share a few tips below on how to attract your first wedding cake orders below:

  1. Start building a portfolio

So the first thing I tell you, even if you’ve never baked a wedding cake order, I would suggest decorating cake dummies as if you’re doing a wedding cake order, and then take pictures of that and you’ll have like something to showcase to show that you can actually do a wedding cake for someone.

  • 2. Take a wedding cake class

The second thing you can do, if you are not confident in your skill, is to take a wedding cake class. We sometimes we offer these three-day classes for wedding cakes. Once you take a class; you’ll gain that confidence you need. After the class, make sure to repeat what you have learned in your kitchen. Practice decorating a wedding cake, take pictures and use them to attract orders.

  • 3. Shadow a baker who does wedding cakes

Approach a baker who mentors you or who you’re close to and help them out when they’re doing a wedding cake. You’ll get the practice you need and you’ll get to see the process of making a wedding cake. Going through the whole process with another baker one or two times, will give you the confidence you need to be able to do it yourself when you get an order.

I hope those tips will help you in getting your first wedding cake order. If it has or you have a question on this topic, please leave a comment below.
